Oh the humanity....my poor Tigers just laid down and got steamrolled. Exactly what I was afraid of - a long layoff while a hot team kept on going.

Wasn't exactly to see Romo freeze Cabrera with that third strike looking fastball after a bunch of sliders. Hell even the ump's knees buckled.

But Leyland is coming back for 2013 and any team with Verlander and a Triple Crown winner looks good on paper and gives one pause for optimism....

How does a guy win a Triple Crown hitting in that ballpark?

Hat tip from an ex-patriate Tigers fan - the Giants totally outclassed the toothless Tigers.... a deserving championship.

add to your list: best earthquakes!

Thanks for the congrats, the Tigers will be back next spring.

"add to your list: best earthquakes!"

Me thinks that honor goes to the eastern Pacific ring of fire (japan & indonesia) and southern ring (chile) but with the recent 7.7 off the coast of British Columbia and the 7.0 Gulf of California we are reminded that the clock is ticking!

My best guess is the next great California earthquake will be the Los Angeles Basin and i'll take an earthquake to a major hurricane any day, sans tsunami.

Well, NY has good bagels and pizza, eh? Our strippers are top notch as well! Those are the only 3 that come to mind though.

And actually, these days our buds (mine, at least) are quite up to par with anything in Cali. Guaranteed :-)

Best baseball franchise!? Sorry. I'm even a bitter Yankee-hating, Mets fan. But that one's not debatable.

"Best CITY IN THE WORLD "

pre 1990 I would agree but since then it has become Disneyland north and lost so much of its character. Man I loved hanging out in the City back in the 80's. Great Dead shows and just an amaziing alternative reality experience, like no where else in North America. Too bad they had to go and sterilize the whole place. I mean a dog park in Washington Square? Family entertainment in Times Square and Bryant Park...that used to be the Rastafari guantlet...the customer got to pick which bag they wanted to buy while on the way to the airport. I loved old, dirty, scarey NYC,or as we used to call it "The cop free zone" where you didn't have to look over your shoulder expectng some bored cop to be hassling you about smoking a doob on the street corner as they had real crime to deal with. I remmeber some amazing Halloween Parades in the Village. I need a Momouns fix badly.

I live in Seattle now and the only best we have is:

Vancouver BC has the best Chinese food in North America, NO DOUBT! Even Squamish has better Chinese food than anything you'll find in the USA.

Certainly debatable. Steeers, Packs, Cowboys, 49ers?

"Best pastrami (Corned Beef, Brisket, etc...)
Best Chinese food (Excellent Dumpling House anyone?)
Best Bob Dylan Albums (That counts... right?)"

I can't argue with those either. Although some say China has the best Chinese food lol. I think you could add best Italian delis to that list as well. And how about best night life? Certainly.

Best Dead shows? Absolutely. I've always said that, and stand by it. Though CA is a close 2nd there as well.

Ok ok as a lifelong giants fan I sorta ignored reason on that one... but that's a fan's prerogative no? I might also add best bars and concerts generally to the list. One of the best parts of living in the city is that no matter who you want to see... eventually they'll play NYC.

The biggest HATS?!?

No, that has to be England. Specifically, wherever the royals hang out.

But definitely the biggest screwball comedy of a gubernatorial embarassment. California had competition from South Carolina (governor goes AWOL with Argentinian) and New York (governor meets call girl), but Arnold and Mildred the Maid has to be the biggest and best scandal comedy of all time.

But hats?

Californian in hat:

but to be fair it's a little large, populated, and incredibly diverse to be just considered ONE State don't you think?

HA! Good one BD. I loved when Arnold thought he could come in and save the day as if it was one of his movies. I'm no expert but it seems pretty damn obvious to me that managing the world's eighth largest economy is probably much more complicated than simple aw shucks salt of the earth common sense that might work in a State with the population of a small town in CA. Not saying there probably isn't plenty of stupid Government waste but clearly this problem is much bigger than to just point fingers as them dang liberals. Of course it's just me but I'd personally love to live in a BLUE State right now. I've had my share of hypocritical redneck right wingers who plaster their cars with their stupid bumper stickers and don't seem to realize that the PFD checks they collect every year is Socialism which they claim to hate.

they only hate it when someone else gets the hand-out, only then is it socialism. That cuts to the quick of the real argument here...give me the handout and its good red economics, give the handout to someone other than me and its liberal socialist freeloading, mooching and destroying America...

Absolutely! It's well documented how many Tea Baggers show up at their rallies riding medicare funded scooters etc. Up here there's no shortage of people who claim to hate Government while recieving Government checks. And of course there's nothing wrong with our Healthcare until it happens to them or a loved one.

Bingo--I love the "we're becoming a socialist state!" when the plain fact is far more get something from "big gubermint" than those that don't...the shrinking private sector.

Starting spending cuts by eliminating subsidies for billion dollar corporations and shady defense contractors is fine by me but for some reason the proposed cuts never start there do they?

Nasty weather this evening for a baseball game there will be a storm of rowdy fans menacing in the city this evening. Detroit fans pale in comparison to the energy at AT&T park.

On a conciliatory note i noticed that the NHL HD channel is replaying the Bruins 2011 Stanley Cup playoffs ) -:

From the Bay Area and lived there off and on, I'm an A's fan which automatically makes me NOT a Giants fan. Anybody who's from there will tell you you are one or the other never both. One of the very few times I'm glad I don't live there - won't have to hear any of the shit talking. Yes, congratulations Giants but other than that

GO A's! Hopefully next year!
